Wayfaring Wednesday

Dear Self,

Dear Self,
New Year, Better Me.

Not louder.
Not rushed.
Not chasing what looks impressive from the outside.

Better—because I’m choosing alignment over applause.

This year, I want to move with intention. To honor the lessons that were hard-earned and the growth that came quietly, without announcement. I want to steward my time, my energy, and my gifts with more care—because they are entrusted, not accidental.

Better means fewer distractions and deeper roots.
Better means discipline that feels like devotion.
Better means letting go of what no longer bears good fruit, even if it once did.

I’m learning that refinement often looks like subtraction.
That peace is not passive—it’s chosen daily.
That faith doesn’t remove uncertainty, but it does anchor me when the path feels unclear.

This year, I want my work to be excellent, my words to be thoughtful, my home to be a place of rest, and my presence to feel steady rather than scattered. I want to build things that last—relationships, habits, and work that serves people well.

New year.
Same woman.
Wiser heart.
Clearer vision.

And grace for the days I’m still becoming.

As the New Year approaches,
it feels natural to think about new beginnings.

Not the loud, performative kind.
Not the kind that relies on a single word chosen at midnight.

But the kind that unfolds slowly—through intention, repetition, and a willingness to try again.

New Year’s resolutions get a bad reputation. People say they don’t last. That they’re set up to fail. And while that can be true, it hasn’t always been my experience. I’ve finished many resolutions successfully—not because I was perfect, but because I treated them less like promises and more like direction.

Still, I like the idea of new beginnings better.

New beginnings leave room for grace.
They acknowledge that change often comes in seasons, not straight lines.
They allow for adjustment without shame.

A new beginning might look like:

  • Creating healthier rhythms instead of chasing perfection

  • Being more intentional with time, relationships, and energy

  • Letting go of what no longer fits—even if it once served you well

  • Choosing steadiness over urgency

  • Building toward something rather than trying to reinvent everything at once

Sometimes new beginnings are internal—mindset, habits, faith, discipline.

And sometimes they’re external—where we live, how our space supports us, how our home functions for the life we’re actually living now, not the one we lived five or ten years ago.

Home, after all, is often the quiet backdrop to our growth.
It’s where routines form.
Where conversations happen.
Where rest—or restlessness—shows up most clearly.

As the calendar turns, I’m less interested in sweeping declarations and more drawn to thoughtful steps forward. The kind that compound over time. The kind that feel rooted, not rushed.

So maybe this year isn’t about resolutions you fear breaking.
Maybe it’s about choosing new beginnings you’re willing to nurture.

One thoughtful decision at a time.
