Savor Every Bite: The Perfect Food-Focused Day Trip in Lititz
Savor Every Bite: The Perfect Food-Focused Day Trip in Lititz
Years ago, I heard the term "be connected with your food." While it might date me a bit—given how today's world is all about connections of all types—I think it still holds value. We don’t always lack time; sometimes, we simply don’t know how to spend our leisure moments or feel disconnected from the world around us. I get it. As someone who stays busy balancing work, motherhood, and blogging, exploring the area is one of my favorite parts of my job. So, what do we do when we finally have time and want to enjoy groceries at a slower pace? Well, here’s my idea for a delicious day out.

🛍️ Start at Downtown Lititz
Morning Stroll: Begin your day with a relaxing walk down Lititz's historic Main Street. Known for its charming atmosphere, this area is full of unique shops, art galleries, and local boutiques. It’s the perfect way to get into the small-town vibe before diving into your culinary adventure.
🍝 Piccolo Eatery - Authentic Italian Groceries
Piccolo Eatery: Your first stop is Piccolo Eatery, a cozy Italian restaurant offering much more than just meals. Their market area features high-quality Italian groceries, including pastas, olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and sauces imported directly from Italy.
Experience: Browse their selection of fresh breads, imported cheeses, and specialty meats like salami and prosciutto. I grabbed a jar of pesto from Italy here—not that I eat pesto daily, but I freeze it in ice cube trays. When I need it, I just pull it out to toss on pasta or coat chicken before grilling. It’s the perfect way to enjoy quality food without feeling guilty. If you stop by, say "hi" to Nino for me!
Tip: If you're not just shopping, indulge in a quick espresso while browsing their gourmet offerings.
🥯 Dosie Dough Bakery - Fresh Bagels & Sweet Treats
Dosie Dough Bakery: Take a break at Dosie Dough, a popular local bakery known for its organic, locally sourced ingredients.
Bagels: Enjoy a variety of fresh bagels with cream cheese, including cinnamon raisin and everything bagels. It’s a perfect snack or light lunch.
Sweet Treats: If you’re in the mood for something sweet, pick up scones, cookies, and muffins to enjoy later. Don't miss the fresh cinnamon rolls if you want a delicious treat.
Tip: Pair your bagel or treat with a coffee made from locally roasted beans to complete the experience. Skip the coffee if you plan to go to New Holland Coffee Co next…unless you want two cups of coffee!
☕New Holland Coffee Co. – Coffee Beans & Brews
New Holland Coffee Co.: For coffee lovers, a visit to New Holland Coffee Co. is a must. This cozy local spot offers a wide selection of freshly roasted beans, from light and medium to bold dark roasts. Whether you prefer a fruity Ethiopian blend or a rich French roast, you'll find the perfect brew to take home.
Take Home Coffee Beans: Grab a bag of their popular Guatemala blend or their signature House Espresso. Beans are available for purchase in-store and online.
On-Site Brew: While you’re there, enjoy a freshly brewed cup of their specialty coffee. Their House Blend is perfect for those who love a smooth, everyday coffee.
Gift Options: Looking for a unique gift? New Holland Coffee Co. also offers beautifully packaged beans and custom brewing accessories.
Tip: Relax with your coffee while browsing their selection or enjoy the local vibe in their outdoor seating area.
🥕 Green Dragon Produce if It’s a Friday
Green Dragon Produce Market: Next, head to Green Dragon—a Lancaster County staple for fresh, locally sourced produce, baked goods, and homemade treats. It’s more than just a place to buy fruits and vegetables; it’s a true experience!
Shop: Pick up farm-fresh tomatoes, herbs, garlic, and seasonal produce that will pair perfectly with your Italian goods from Piccolo. Many local restaurants get their produce from Green Dragon, so you know it’s fresh. You’ll also find fresh flowers, homemade jams, and canned goods.
Tip: If you’re into gardening, Green Dragon offers a wide selection of local plants—perfect for adding fresh herbs to your home garden. Currently the Green Dragon Hours are Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM but check to see if they changed.
🍕 Explore More of Lititz & Optional Stops
Lunch or Early Dinner Option: After all that shopping, you may be ready for a meal. Consider stopping by The Tomato Pie Café for their famous tomato pie pizza, or head to The Wilbur Chocolate Factory for a sweet indulgence if you’re a chocolate lover.
Optional Stops:
The Lititz Farmers Market: If you're in town on a Saturday, visit the farmers market for fresh produce instead of Green Dragon.
The Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery: If you have extra time, take a tour at the historic Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery and learn the art of pretzel making.
🍷 Wine and Relaxation
Conclude Your Day at a Local Winery: End your food-focused day with a relaxing visit to a nearby winery. Sip on a glass of wine while taking in the scenic views, or pick up a bottle to enjoy at home, paired with your Italian groceries.
Tips for the Day:
Comfortable Shoes: Walking through Lititz’s charming streets is fun, but you’ll want to wear comfortable shoes. Last time I wore leather dress shoes, but I wished I had sneakers on! It’s easy to walk around, but poor shoes will catch up with you.
Reusable Bags: Don’t forget your reusable bags for all your fresh produce and artisanal purchases.
Check Hours: Green Dragon’s hours can vary, so be sure to check before you go.
This unique food-focused day trip in Lititz will deepen your appreciation for the local culinary scene, with authentic Italian ingredients and fresh Lancaster County produce to take home. Enjoy the leisurely experience of connecting with your food, and savor each moment!

Real Estate Moment: The Best Time Could Be Now
As we navigate through uncertain economic times, the big question remains: What does the future hold for real estate? Will it improve or get tougher to manage? There’s no way to predict it with certainty, but one thing is clear—sometimes, the best time to act is when the opportunity presents itself.
What if the market is actually better now than it’ll be in the future? Or, what if we’re closer to the bottom and things will improve in the coming months? Only time will tell. But what if the best time for you to move is right now?
