Local Notes
Open Studio in Lancaster County —
On select nights, Horst Arts in Manheim, PA will open its doors to artists and creators of all sorts to exercise their craft in a common space. This space includes an 11′ diameter circular scrap-wood table housed in a bright, eclectic studio. There’s no fee and no set activity. Simply bring your supplies and work on your project while hanging out with other local artists. Compare notes, challenges and successes. Share critiques. Be encouraged!

The Power of Third Spaces: Where Real Community Is Built
Third Spaces: The Missing Piece of Community
We all know home is important. Work has its place. But there’s a third space many people overlook — and it may be the key to feeling truly connected.
A third space is anywhere that’s not home and not work, but somewhere you go regularly enough to build natural relationships. A church group. A golf or pickleball club. A volunteer organization. A favorite coffee shop. A downtown arts scene.
It’s not about formal invitations or scheduled “let’s catch up” moments. It’s about rhythm. Showing up. Familiar faces. Casual conversation that slowly turns into belonging.
For many people relocating, retiring, divorcing, or starting over, access to a third space becomes essential. Where you live either makes that connection easy — or quietly makes it harder.
Community isn’t a luxury. It’s infrastructure for a full life.

A Final Thought
Quote to Close On
“Some people think they are in community, but they are only in proximity. True community requires commitment and openness. It is a willingness to extend yourself to encounter and know the other.”
